Netflix hires biz dev chief in Asia Pac

NARCOS_109_02194R.jpgGlobal streaming service Netflix has hired a VP of business development in the Asia Pacific region as it builds relationships with regional telcos.

Anthony Zameczkowski has joined from Victorious, a mobile video start-up backed by Silicon Valley private investor Kleiner Perkins. Before that, he spent eight years at Google and its video platform YouTube and worked as a sales and business development manager at Warner Bros. Television in London.

Netflix launched across the Asia Pacific region in January as part of its global launch announced at the Consumer Electronics Show, and has already partnered with the likes of Singtel and StarHub.

However, it has faced criticism in Indonesia, where state telco Telekom blocked it in January over concerns about the content of its programming, which includes Pablo Escobar drama Narcos (pictured).

“One of the next steps in Netflix globalisation is about building and leveraging strategic partnerships in the region that will drive our memberships in Asia-Pacific,” said Mr Zameczkowski.

Netflix’s new recruit will be based in Singapore and report to Bill Homes, global head of business development.
