Crackle takes Fargo route with Snatch series

Sony Pictures Television’s on-demand service, Crackle, is rebooting gangster film Snatch as a television drama.

“Much like the television series Fargo, Crackle will carry the spirit of the setting in the original feature film, while creating a new world born from the original movie,” according to the platform’s press release.

Fargo has been a major hit for US cable channel FX since the TV reboot of the 1990s Coen brothers movie debuted in 2014.

Snatch was a 2000 British gangster from director Guy Ritchie that starred Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones and others as characters from Britain’s underworld, who are involved in a diamond heist. Pitt was notable as a bare-knickle boxing champion and Irish Traveller.

The TV series will run to ten-episodes, though no production details, cast or directors were revealed.

It will, however, be “Informed by a real life gold bullion heist in London, the show centres on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime”.

Characters will include “rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains”, akin to the Ritchie comedy caper.

The show was revealed at Crackle’s Upfront in New York this week, where SuperMansion and new drama StartUp were touted.
