Superprod digging into Octopus’s Garden at MIPTV
French kids prodco Superprod is making an animated version of Octopus’s Garden, the kids book based on the eponymous song by The Beatles.
The book, published by Simon & Schuster, features the lyrics from the Ringo Starr-penned song and illustrations from Ben Cort (Aliens Love Underpants).
The book has sold three million copies and has been published in 18 languages.
Universal Music Publishing owns the song rights and is part of the roster of partners on the animated series, which also includes Simon & Schuster.
Superprod will be pitching the project and scouting for partners at MIPTV. Its distribution arm Superights will handle international presales and sales of the show.
“The evergreen song by Ringo Starr and the superb drawings by Ben Cort are a wonderful setting for telling our animated stories,” Superprod founders Clément Calvet and Jeremie Fajner said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to team-up with such great talent and major partners in the music and book publishing industries.”
Alexandra Maramenides from Simon & Schuster Children’s added: “We are delighted that all these leading parties have come together to work on such an exciting project. It is a real coup to be working with Superprod and we can’t wait to see their adaptation.”
