Turner sends out Search Party
Turner has ordered Search Party, an original drama series for its TBS cable net in the US and its international entertainment channels.
The series, which will be produced by US indie Jax Media (Inside Amy Schumer), is billed as a dark comedy, and will follow four self-absorbed twenty-somethings who come together when a former college acquaintance mysteriously disappears.
Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) plays the lead as a downbeat drifter who finds a cause in the search for her missing friend.
Search Party will launch TBS’s linear, digital and mobile platforms in 2016 in the US. Turner International’s general entertainment networks will show the series outside of North America.
“This fantastic cast of comedians have truly hit on the glory and utter misery of early adulthood,” said Brett Weitz, executive VP of original programming for TBS. “Search Party is a carefully observed, blunt comedy for people who are testing out who they are and who they strive to be.”
The series comes after Turner’s chief content officer, Kevin Reilly, made Weitz programming boss at TBS earlier this year.
