Western Europe OTT revenues to double
Revenues generated by OTT services in Western Europe will more than double between now and 2020, according to new research.
Digital TV Research forecasts that regional OTT revenues will top US$13.7 billion across the region in 2020, a sharp increase on the US$6.3 billion expected this year.
The UK will contribute the largest proportion of the additional revenues added between now and 2020, the research house said, ahead of France and Italy respectively.
Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “We forecast 55.66 million SVOD homes by 2020, up from 1.66 million in 2010 and an expected 15.29 million by end-2015. Germany will overtake the UK to become the largest country by SVOD homes in 2020.”
Should Digital TV’s forecasts come to pass, 32.2% of households in Western Europe will have an SVOD package by 2020. That would be a marked increase on the 9% recorded at end-2014. Penetration levels will be highest in the Nordics.
The predictions are contained in Digital TV Research’s new Western Europe OTT TV and Video Forecasts report.
