Minions movie latches on to FX

FX Networks in the US has acquired television premiere rights to Universal’s money-spinning animated movie Minions.

Minions recently took the second-largest domestic opening ever for an animated film, and will now run on FX channels along with fellow box office toppers Ted 2 and Terminator Genysis.

Comedy Minions, spun out of the Despicable Me franchise, follows yellow ‘minions’ as they head to 1960s America to find a new villain to serve.

The news closely follows the FX acquisition of Jurassic World. The 21st Century Fox-owned business is positioning itself as the premiere American destination for top-rated movies.

In 2014, it licensed two-thirds of the year’s US$100 million-plus-grossing movies.

The new films will run across the FX, FXX and FXM channels and on-demand portal FXNOW.
