Discovery in Cuban doc first
Discovery Channel has commissioned Cuban Chrome, a doc series about car culture in Cuba that it claims is the US TV series ever shot entirely in the county.
The show will bow on the Discovery Channel net month and in Spanish on Discovery en Español. It will follow the history and culture of maintaining and running classic American cars in Cuba as seen through the eyes of the members of the A Lo Cubano Car Club.
The club restores and maintains the classic cars, which are then passed down through the generations.
The show is being produced by Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios for Discovery. The factual channel operator said it was granted unprecedented access by both Cuban and US authorities to make the series.
Production access was actually granted prior to the US announcing it would restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba meaning that reaction to the historic announcement from the A Lo Cubano Car Club members is also captured.
The show debuts in the US on July 13.
