Fledgling Turkish pay platform adds Discovery channels
Fledgling Turkish pay TV operator Filbox has added a bouquet of Discovery channels to its line-up.
Filbox is owned by Oflaz Media Group, which in turn owns the Medyavizyon distribution operation and the Sinema TV channels. Its low-cost satellite pay TV service launched last June.
A deal with Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) will see the core Discovery Channel as well as Discovery Science, Animal Planet, Discovery Showcase HD and Eurosport.
These will sit alongside other Filbox channels including several from MTG’s Viasat, RTL and Trace.
Filbox founder and Oflaz president, Fatih Oflaz, said: “Launching all these wonderful channels will further strengthen our market position in Turkey. Our country has 21 million households and only 6 million of them enjoy a pay tv service. Our biggest aim to recruit the remaining households to our service.
“Our well balanced, high quality channel list and affordable price policy will enable us to achieve this target.”
