Disney’s Maker studios strikes Vimeo deal
Disney-owned multichannel network Maker Studios has signed a deal to with Vimeo to debut content exclusively on the video site.
Under the deal, Maker Studios, which has a longstanding relationship with YouTube, will also use the Vimeo on Demand platform to distribute content made by a select number of its creators.
This content will be available on the site in an exclusive window on a paid-for basis and will reportedly compliment Maker’s other existing content distribution arrangements.
“We’re excited to welcome Maker’s incredible community of creators to the Vimeo On Demand platform, allowing them to bring their content to new audiences and earn more revenue through direct VOD sales,” said Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor.
Maker Studios chief strategy officer Courtney Holt added: “Maker is always excited to create original programs that reach audiences across platforms, and Vimeo will be a great partner to distribute new ideas.”
Last September Modern Times Group signed a content distribution deal with Maker Studios, agreeing to distribute Maker’s content on its ad-funded online video services across Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Czech Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria.
Disney-owned Maker claims more than 8.5 billion monthly views from its 55,000 channel partners – which have notched up 550 million subscribers.
Maker’s popular content creators include YouTube star PewDiePie and Epic Rap Battles of History.
