Netflix orders F is for Family from Gaumont
Netflix has ordered F is for Family, an animated series based on the comedy of US stand-up comic Bill Burr.
Gaumont International Television will make the six-part half-hour series with US actor Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Television.
Burr created the series, a period family comedy, with Michael Price (The Simpsons).
The show will roll out next year on Netflix in the US and across its international footprint. Laura Dern (Wild at Heart) and Justin Long (Dodgeball) will join Burr as voice talent.
“F is for Family is the show I’ve always wanted to do,” said Burr. “It captures all the characters of my childhood the way I remember it to be. Fortunately Mike Price and everyone at Wild West seem to know the same people I knew growing up. It’s going to be a lot of fun to tell these stories.”
“Bill Burr’s stand-up specials are wildly popular for us worldwide, and we’re looking forward to presenting his nostalgic and unflinching take on the family comedy in this original, animated series,” added Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix.
The project will be GIT’s third for Netflix after Eli Roth horror series Hemlock Grove and upcoming Pablo Escobar drama Narcos. GIT is expected to handle international sales outside of the Netflix territories.
It is GIT’s first move into animation, but it is part of the wider Gaumont group, which also includes France-based toon producer and distributor Gaumont Animation.
“Bill Burr’s voice in capturing the moment to moment comedy in our daily lives is infectious and relatable,” commented Katie O’Connell, CEO, of Gaumont International Television. “This also gives us the chance to show off the great wealth of animation talent at Gaumont Animation. Netflix is the perfect home for this series.”
