13,700 in Cannes for MIPCOM
Reed Midem has said 13,700 delegates attended the thirtieth edition of MIPCOM this week.
Reed, which organises the market in Cannes, France, added that 4,600 of the total were buyers and 1,300 of the acquisitions execs were specifically buying digital and video-on-demand rights.
The 2013 numbers are up year-on-year, with last year’s market attracting 13,500 attendees and a similar number of buyers. In 2011 the attendance number was 12,900.
Distributors were largely upbeat at the market, which was dominated by speculation about the impact the merger of Shine and Endemol will have on the industry.
MIPCOM remains more popular than MIPTV, which had 11,000 delegates back in April, the same number as a year earlier.
Mexico was the country of honour for this year’s MIPCOM and Reed said Turkey will be the featured territory next year.
