Netflix steals Dragons from Cartoon Network
Streaming service Netflix is to become the exclusive home to animated kids series Dreamworks Dragons in 2015.
Netflix will replace Cartoon Network as the show’s exclusive home in the US, having tied up an all-territory deal.
New seasons of the show, based on the How to Train Your Dragon movie franchise, will begin on the streaming service in spring next year. The deal includes rights for France, Germany and other European territories Netflix is launching in later this year.
“This is one of DreamWorks Animation’s most beloved set of characters and we know that kids and families will be enjoying them for years to come,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP, original content.
The first two seasons of DreamWorks Dragons have broadcast on Cartoon Network, which first acquired rights in 2010. Season one debuted in 2012, while season two wrapped its run in March this year.
