Production and distribution giant Endemol has named an RTVE exec at the top of its Iberian digital operation Endemol Beyond Spain.
Francisco Asensi has become managing director of the company, which is part of the Endemol Beyond digital business launched late last year to build an econsystem of channels on platforms such as YouTube, Yahoo and Dailymotion.
Prior to the appointment, Asensi was director, business development and digital strategy at Spanish pubcaster RTVE. He had ran the broadcaster’s multiplatform strategy for six years and is credited with developing on-demand service RTVE a la Carta.
In his new role, Asensi will oversee the expansion of digital video initiatives such as Tuiwok Studios, which came into existence last year and has 65 YouTube channels with a combined 40 million monthly views. The role is a new one at Endemol.
Big Brother producer Endemol ploughed an initial €30 million (US$40 million) into Endemol Beyond in November with the intention of building a global group of digital channels under the leadership of Georg Ramme.
