eOne bags El Rey scripted series deal
Entertainment One will represent scripted programming from US cable net El Rey on the international market.
The deal hands eOne Television exclusive international distribution rights to El Rey’s original shows, which includes upcoming soccer/spy series Matador.
The hour-long drama follows the unlikely rise of Antonio “Matador” Bravo, a soccer player known for his playboy antics off the field who is secretly a covert CIA agent.
However, eOne only gets DVD and electronic sell-through rights to the eagerly-anticipated supernatural crime drama TV remake of From Dusk Till Dawn (pictured). Miramax, which produced the Robert Rodriguez original movie, snapped up international distribution in November.
Rodriguez launched El Rey in December alongside FactoryMade Ventures as one of four minority interest cable nets Comcast was ordered to launch upon it taking majority control of NBCUniversal in 2011.
