NickMom plans to Push It with Hurwitz, Sykes
Nick Jr.’s night-time comedy block NickMom has signed a development deal with writer-producers Wanda Sykes and Page Hurwitz of Push It Productions.
The partnership will develop a currently untitled comedy, with Push It producing. Following the US-based indie prodco’s launch in 2012 it has scored a production deal with NBC, is producing the final series of Last Comic Standing, created Wanda Sykes Presents Herlarious for OWN and is developing shows with Comcast.
It will sit alongside another new Nick original that has been greenlit this week, Undercover Cupid (WT).
BrainSurge’s Scott Stone has created the hidden camera show, which Nyima Funk (Whose Line is it Anyway?) will host. The series will see unsuspecting single parents surprised by three dates picked by their children.
“NickMom will continue to deliver the funny this year with brand-new episodes of our signature series Parental Discretion with Stefanie Wilder-Taylor and Take Me To Your Mother, plus exciting projects in the works that will deliver our special brand of mom comedy,” said Bronwen O’Keefe, senior VP, NickMom.
In related news, reports from the LA Times and Deadline say Nickelodeon’s executive VP Paula Kaplan and senior VP, event and original programming Sal Maniaci have both exited the cablecaster. They are the latest high level departures at the Viacom channel following content development president Marjorie Cohn, animation chief Brown Johnson and production exec Alison Dexter last year.
