AMC orders new reality series from Deadliest Catch team
US cable network AMC has continued its push into unscripted programming with an order for a new original series and a recommission of one of its first wave of reality series.
The new show, King of Arms, is a ten-part one-hour ob-doc series set in the world of competitive arm wrestling. It has been created by Deadliest Catch producers Matt Renner and Ethan Prochnik. It follows the members of five arm wrestling clubs as they compete on the circuit.
AMC said the show will debut early next year and its transmission will coincide with the second half of the latest season of The Walking Dead. It will be produced by Renner and Prochnik’s Undertow Films.
Separately, AMC has ordered another season of Small Town Security (pictured). The Left/Right Films-produced reality series, about a small family run security business, was one of AMC’s first original unscripted shows as it broke into the genre.
The new season will go out alongside the second season of Freakshow, about a modern-day freakshow.
“King of Arms, Small Town Security and Freakshow all take viewers inside worlds most have never seen, populated by unique and unforgettable characters,” said Joel Stillerman, executive VP original programming, production and digital content.
