MasterChef Australia finale ratings hit all-time low
Three years after MasterChef Australia posted a record-breaking four million viewers, the Shine-produced show has scored just one million for the current season’s finale.
According to OzTAM ratings data, just 1.06 million viewers tuned in to see the denouement of the cooking series on Network Ten, which meant Seven’s The X Factor and Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent were among four programmes that beat it.
The number was half that scored in the previous season’s finale and three million fewer than the record-breaking 2010 finale, which was Australia’s highest rated non-sports broadcast with 3.9 million since records began in 2001.
Furthermore, Seven cooking series My Kitchen Rules has overtaken MasterChef as Australia’s top cooking show, hitting 3.27 million viewers.
However, Ten’s chief programming officer Beverly McGarvey told Australian news outlets that “there’s plenty of life left in MasterChef Australia”, which will return with a “new, fresh version in 2014”.
