Electus scores Columbian first-look deal
Multimedia entertainment studio Electus has signed a one-year first-look deal with Columbia’s Caracol Television.
The deal gives Electus the right to develop, pitch and produce Caracol formats for the US market alongside production partner Jay Weisleder and represent a first for the IAC-backed company.
Caracol’s programmes include telenovelas Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso (Without Breasts There is No Paradise, pictured), which NBC piloted in 2006; El Secretario (The Secretary), which was adapted for Fox in the Middle East; and Nuevo Rico Nuevo Pobre. Pablo Escobar: The Drug Lord and upcoming series Football Dreams and The Voice of Freedom are also on the slate.
“We believe that this alliance will allow us to conquer the U.S. market. This is the type of partnership that motivates us to continue to produce universal and unique stories without borders. Electus is always one step ahead and as content creators we feel that this type of vision will continue to reach audiences with international appeal,” said Lisette Osorio, VP, international sales at Caracol Television.
“Caracol’s proven success and its commitment to develop high quality programming will allow us to deliver some of the world’s best formats to our broadcasting partners in the United States,” added Electus International president John Pollak.
