Discovery acquires sex therapy doc
Discovery Fit and Health in the US is among the buyers of Real 40 Year Old Virgins, a documentary about a pair of adults taking sex therapy classes as they prepare to lose their virginity.
Australia’s ABC, RTL2 in Germany, Norway’s TV Norge, TV2 in Denmark, SBS in the Netherlands, VMMa in Belgium and Discovery’s TLC in Poland have also acquired the one-off hour-long doc from UK indie Zig Zag Productions.
The doc follows a man and woman who work with sex therapists and accredited sex surrogates to resolve long-standing issues with physical and emotional intimacy and eventually conclude their journeys by losing their virginity.
The series debuted on UK terrestrial Channel 4 earlier this year.
“International markets are still hungry for high quality one off docs that reflect the extremes of society and it’s fantastic to see the global appetite for our latest documentary is so strong,” said Leila Monks (pictured), Zig Zag Productions’ VP, commercial and current production, who brokered the deals.
Zig Zag previously produced 2007 show Virgin School for Channel 4.
