Mid East ‘Netflix’ scores Miramax deal
Upcoming Middle Eastern streaming service icflix has scored another deal with a US studio – this time picking up a batch of feature films from Miramax.
The agreement includes Academy Award-winning titles such as Chicago and The English Patient and comes soon after icflix added titles from Turner Broadcasting System, DHX Media and Mondo TV to its launch line up.
Financial terms of the deal were kept under wraps.
The films will be subtitled for local audiences.
“We’re very happy to sign with Miramax and to be able to provide our users with high-quality content from this studio,” said icflix’s chairman Fadi Mehio (pictured).
The platform, dubbed MENA’s answer to Netflix, and the first service of its kind in the region – is set to go live this month, providing a mix of US studio, Bollywood and Arabic-language ‘Jazwood’ content across a variety of streaming devices.
Earlier this week, TBI reported icflix had registered trademarks in Europe and North America ahead of launches in those territories.
