Edyson concocts Content Media first-look deal

A new US-Canadian prodco has secured a first-look deal with transatlantic firm Content Media Corporation and hired a former Alliance/Atlantis veteran to head up its stateside activities.

Edyson Entertainment is a new production outfit and has offices in LA and Toronto. It will source, develop and produce properties, with a focus on drama, long-form and miniseries.

Edyson has secured a deal with Content’s television division, and will work closely with Content Media CEO John Schmidt and Content Television president Greg Phillips.

For Content, the deal continues to build its strategy to build a portfolio through exclusive partnerships with production companies.

Furthermore, Edyson founder Alyson Richards (Living in Your Car, Quality Balls) has tapped Ed Gernon to head up the firm’s US business. He had previously spent 12 years at feature film distributor Alliance/Atlantis, which Entertainment One acquired last year.

“Today, there are 35 buyers in the US alone, as opposed to the relatively small handful when I started. The TV business is more dynamic, more creative and more of a level playing field than ever before. We believe Edyson’s development and production skills combined with Content’s global reach and financial acumen makes for a formidable new voice in the TV landscape,” said Gernon.
