China covers Canadian singing format
China’s Enlight Media has bought local format rights to Cover Me Canada, a competition reality series in which unsigned music acts perform well known hits.
The deal, scored with Eccho Rights’ Asian office, will see Enlight create a local version. Enlight produces the Chinese versions of major formats such as X Factor, Got Talent and Clash of the Choirs.
Cover Me Canada originated on CBC, produced by 11 Television.
Gary Pudney, head of Asia Pacific at Eccho Rights, said: “Cover Me Canada is a great take on the reality singing format. This kind of show is performing well in China right now and it’s great news that a first rate producer with experience of these kind of formats will be taking the show forward.”
Chloe Yang, director of marketing at Enlight Media said the format had already attracted the attention of broadcasters and advertisers.
