Star comes out for Disney Channel

US kids’ net Disney Channel has gone in-house for animated comedy adventure series about a magical teen princess who is sent to Earth.

Star and the Forces of Evil (WT) will follow the princess who, after a number of skirmishes with other-worldly monsters, goes to live with a regular Earth family but is soon back battling evil villains. Eden Sher (The Middle) provides the lead character’s voice.

Production at Disney Television Animation has begun production ahead of a scheduled fall 2014 premiere.

Artist Daron Nefcy (Wonder Over Yonder, MAD) is the series’ creator. She co-executive produces along with Dave Wasson (The Buzz on Maggie) and Jordana Arkin (Will & Grace)

“When Daron pitched her show, we fell in love with her characters, her style and her sensibility. And with the deep talent and experience of Dave Wasson and Jordana Arkin, this show furthers our commitment to create great new stories for kids and families,” said DTA’s senior VP, original series, Eric Coleman.

The commission follows Disney ordering a second season of another princess-themed show, Sofia The First, earlier this week.
