A+E plans international launch of History sister channel H2

A+E Networks is preparing to launch its H2 channel in international markets for the first time.

The network is the sister offering to History and is currently only distributed in the North America. Buoyed by results there, the A+E Networks will now launch it outside of its domestic territory.

The first launch announcements will come shortly, Sean Cohan (pictured), executive VP, international for A+E Networks told TBI.

“Results for the channel in the US have been good and surpassed expectations,” he said. “It skews slightly older than History and offers more of a deep dive on the information in the programming.”

In the US, History International was rebranded H2 in late 2011.

The channel is also carried in Canada, but the upcoming launches will be the first outside of North America.

It is programmed with content from History as well as some original shows including America Unearthed, which is distributed internationally by Electus.
