DHX cuts Chinese SVOD channel deal

Canadian producer DHX has inked a deal for a Chinese subscription video-on-demand channel.

DHX inked the deal with China Mobile Entertainment Holdings and Alebrije Entertainment and will, in turn, be the content provider for Chinese OTT service PPLive. It will provide over 900 episodes of its shows.

“DHX Media’s television series are very popular with kids between the ages 2-7. The edutainment channel launch will be a great tool for children in China to be entertained while being educated,” says Jingyu Qiu, GM, PPLive International.

Josh Scherba, senior VP Distribution at DHX Media said: “This is a significant deal for us – one which expands the reach of our brands into the rapidly growing Chinese digital market. We already have a number of shows performing strongly on VOD platforms in the territory but this will add to the content available.”
