Pawn Stars getting remade in the UK
A UK version of unscripted series Pawn Stars will be made after A+E Networks UK ordered a local adaptation of the show. The US series is on A+E’s History and the UK version will be made by UK producer Leftfield Pictures.
Production on Pawn Stars UK (WT) will start later this year and the 8x1hr UK version will have British contestants and feature items of British heritage.
In the US, the series’ run stretches to almost 300 episodes. The show takes viewers inside the doors of a family-run pawn shop in Las Vegas, where three generations of men from the Harrison family buy and sell collectible, unusual and historically significant items.
The resulting series will air on the History channel in the UK and around the world.
It will be the first time that the show has been remade as a local format. Christian Murphy, senior VP, international programming and marketing at A+E Networks said. “This commission establishes a new model whereby History channels around the world will own this phenomenal franchise extension.”
Brent Montgomery, owner of Leftfield Pictures and Executive Producer of Pawn Stars, said, “There is such depth and richness in English history, that we felt marrying it with Pawn Stars was a natural extension of the brand. We are confident that viewers, not just in the UK, but in the US and internationally, will find a British iteration of the show to be fascinating and very entertaining.”
