Sonar closes movie and miniseries deals in the UK

Sonar Entertainment, the company formerly known as RHI, has closed a number of deals for its TV movies and miniseries with British broadcasters including Channel 5 and Sky.

Channel 5 has acquired a package of ten titles including Love’s Christmas Journey, a mini-series that stars Sean Astin and Ernest Borgnine.

Pay TV broadcaster Sky Movies has picked up two hour television movie Cupid, which stars Joely Fisher (Desperate Housewives), while Scottish broadcaster STV has acquired disaster movie Category 6: Day of Destruction starring Thomas Gibson and Nancy McKeon.

Meanwhile, Tesco-owned video-on-demand service Blinkbox has licensed over 20 titles including Susan Sarandon-fronted Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune and Human Trafficking, which stars Donald Sutherland and Mira Sorvino, as well as 22 episode series Flash Gordon.

“We are enjoying tremendous sales momentum in territories throughout the world. These deals in the UK are an excellent indication of the globally strong demand for our product.
