China’s Hunan to remake Endemol variety show

Chinese broadcaster Hunan Broadcasting System is to launch a local version of variety show Your Face Sounds Familiar after striking a deal with Endemol.

This is Endemol’s latest formats deal in China following deals for XXS, 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show and 1vs100. It also marks the first Asian sale for Your Face Sounds Familiar.

The broadcaster has commissioned 11 episodes that will launch later this month in primetime. The show, which has been picked up in eight international territories after its initial commission via Spain’s Antena3, is a talent competition with a comedy twist.

Li Hao, premier vice president of Hunan Satellite TV, Hunan Broadcasting System said: “Endemol has a strong reputation for delivering hit programmes and Your Face Sounds Familiar is a welcome addition to ourschedules. Having seen the success of the show in other countries, we are confident the format will be just as popular with viewers here in China.”
