Sky strikes Miramax movie deal
British pay TV broadcaster BSkyB has struck a volume deal with movie distributor Miramax.
The deal will give the News Corp-backed company’s movie channel Sky Movies access to films including Life is Beautiful, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Spy Kids, Starsky & Hutch and Pulp Fiction.
Movies will be offered in high definition as well as via Sky’s on demand service Sky Anytime+ and online service Sky Go.
This is Miramax’s latest international volume deal following its acquisition by Colony Capital from Disney in 2010; it has inked similar deals with Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 and Sky Italia.
Simon Rexworthy, Controller of Acquisitions at Sky Movies said, “It’s great to be working with Miramax as they build out their business and make more of their titles available to us. The deal will give Sky Movies customers exclusive access to some of the best titles from Miramax’s unrivalled archive including such iconic modern classics as Pulp Fiction and Chicago.”
