CBS developing Draw Something gameshow

US network CBS is developing a gameshow based on the hugely successful mobile app Draw Something.

The show is being produced by Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Michael Davies’ Embassy Row.

The app was developed by OMGPOP, which was subsequently acquired by game developer Zynga for US$180 million. The game, which has been downloaded over 50 million times, sees players compete to draw words on their touchscreen phones.

The show is latest online novelty to be turned into a television series; Rovio is launching an animated version of Angry Birds later this year.

“Teams of celebrities and everyday users will test their skills in front of a studio audience to earn money and big laughs. Viewers can also play along at home for a chance to win prizes and compete with the celebrities,” CBS noted.
