FremantleMedia remaking Prisoner Cell Block H
Prisoner Cell Block H is being remade 25 years after the original hit drama launched.
The new series, titled Wentworth, will be produced by FremantleMedia Australia for Australian pay TV broadcaster Foxtel.
The original series, which aired between 1976 and 1986 on Network Ten was produced by Reg Grundy Organisation, which became part of the RTL-owned production company following the merger of Grundy and Crackerjack in 2006.
“I think it’s time to take a look at Prisoner and do a 2012 reimagining of the show. It’s going to be provocative in a way that it could never be on Channel Ten but certainly can on subscription television,” Brian Walsh, director of television at Foxtel, told local press.
