The CW buys Israeli time-travel comedy Danny Hollywood
US broadcast network The CW has acquired Danny Hollywood, a time-travel comedy series based on the Israeli musical drama of the same name.
The Israeli series is distributed by Armoza Formats and was, in turn, sold to CBS Studios by US agents Paradigm. CBS Studios then shopped the format to The CW, a joint venture between CBS and Warner Bros., and Bert V Royal (Easy A) will write the script for the US version.
The Israeli series, which stretches to 200x30mins on the pay Yes Stars pay TV channel, is the country’s most popular daily drama.
It follows a documentary filmmaker trying to solve the mystery behind the death of an iconic rock star, Danny Hollywood. In attempting to unravel what happened the filmmaker gets sucked into a time portal, travels back to 1968 and falls in love with the music star.
Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, “There’s great potential for a successful, long-running series in the US based on the material, especially as Danny’s target audience – women 18-34 – matches the CW’s. We look forward to developing Danny for the US market.”
