UKTV’s Really picks up US studio series
UK digital terrestrial channel Really has acquired 300 hours of content from Hollywood studios Warner Bros and Disney.
The lifestyle broadcaster, which is owned by UKTV, has picked up series including The OC, Grey’s Anatomy and talkshow Ellen. It has bought four seasons of Warner Bros’ teen series The OC and season nine of Warner Bros’ Ellen as well as the first two seasons of Disney’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.
This comes one month after the female skewing network launched on UK DTT service Freeview and follows its acquisition of USA Network’s spy drama Covert Affairs.
Nikki McDermott, UKTV’s acquisition executive, said: “We are thrilled to have acquired nearly 300 hours of exclusive US content for Really. Its unique positioning has opened the doors to rich vein of US programming for us and we’ll be looking to acquire more going forward.”
