Shine hires BocaBoca’s Macarena Rey to run new Iberian division

News Corp-owned Shine has recruited Macarena Rey from Spanish production company BocaBoca and she will run its new Iberian division.

Rey will start in the new role in July and build a team of local production talent.

She has been at BocaBoca for eight years and has also served as director of productions for Canal+ Spain’s in-house content unit.

Shine, which was acquired by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp earlier this year. It has already set up numerous international outposts in territories including Australia, France, Germany and Scandinavia. Its Iberian unit will originate programming as well as represent Shine’s existing formats in  Spain and Portugal.

Shine Group CEO and Chairman Elisabeth Murdoch said: “As a strategy we continue to bring amazing, respected, creative and entrepreneurial talent to lead our establishment in key territories and further complement the Shine Group as a whole.”

Macarena Rey said: “The Spanish market is in need of new and successful formats, especially in factual entertainment, and Shine Group has these. I look forward to getting underway and establishing Shine as a production force across Spain and Portugal.”
