Sony sells The Big C to HBO Lat Am
Sony Pictures Television has sold cancer drama The Big C to HBO Latin America.
The deal will see the Latin American arm of the US premium broadcaster air the series across its network of channels.
The 30 minute series has been licensed in more than 36 countries including Brazil and the Caribbean.
The Big C stars Laura Linney as a suburban housewife who discovers she has cancer and doesn’t tell her friends or family or husband, played by The West Wing’s Oliver Platt. It airs in the United States on Showtime and was recently renewed for a second season and has also been sold to international broadcasters including Channel 4 (UK), Super Channel (Canada) and Sky Italia.
Separately, Sony’s recently inaugurated Middle Eastern production arm, Sony Pictures Television Arabia, has won an order from Al Aan TV to make the new season of its flagship series Amira. The one-hour show will be broadcast live from Dubai and be transmitted across the Middle East.
Sony Pictures Television Arabia was created last November and is run by Elements TV founders Ziad Kebbi and Dany Karam. Al Aan TV is a pan-Arab satellite channel, targeting young Arab women.
