Foursquare strikes TV deal
Mobile location service Foursquare is to move into the television business after striking a deal with Endemol’s US production company.
The deal will see Foursquare, one of the most talked about applications on the internet, and Endemol USA develop an original television format using the service.
The move is reminiscent of Twitter’s entry in the television business last year when it struck a deal with US production companies Reveille and Brillstein.
Foursquare allows users to “check in” and to connect with friends that are in the same places as well offering discounts. It currently has around 5 million users.
“This marks a groundbreaking partnership for Endemol USA, and we are thrilled to partner with an innovative company like Foursquare in developing a truly unique show,” said David Goldberg chairman, Endemol North America.
The two companies will also integrate the service into a number of Endemol USA’s existing reality and gameshow formats.
