HBO to remake Armoza’s Naked Truth
US premium cable network HBO is to remake Israeli format The Naked Truth after striking a deal with Armoza Formats and Lionsgate.
This is the latest deal by a US network to produce a local version of an Israeli format and follows the news earlier this week that ABC is remaking Matar’s Tall and Greebaum.
The Time Warner-owned broadcaster will develop the drama series with Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips, the first move since he signed an overall deal with producer and distributor Lionsgate.
The Naked Truth originally aired on Israel’s Channel 10 and was created by Uri and Benny Barbash. It follows a team of police officers who are investigating the disappearance of a teenage girl from a powerful family. Armoza Formats is the international distributor and has also sold the show in Italy, France, Holland, Poland, Switzerland and Belgium.
“From the moment that The Naked Truth aired on Israeli TV, we knew we had a format that put a unique and sophisticated twist on the popular genre of suspense drama. Our agreement with HBO confirms both the power of the storytelling and the potential of the format to be a major worldwide export,” said Armoza Formats chief executive Avi Armoza.
