RTL launching X Factor in Germany

German broadcasters RTL and Vox are set to produce a local version of hit musical talent format X Factor after striking a deal with FremantleMedia.

RTL will air the series opener and the finale, while other episodes of the show will air on sister channel Vox. The show will be produced by Grundy Light Entertainment, which is also owned by RTL Group.

The show originally aired on ITV in the UK and this deal will mark the 17th country that the format will air in including in France via W9, Australia via Network Ten and Columbia via RCN.

The series is also reportedly close to launch in the US. Simon Cowell told GQ magazine that the show will launch on Fox in September 2010 and will be produced by a new company that he is setting up with British retail magnate and Top Shop-owned Philip Green.
