Fox creates new digital content arm

Hollywood studio Fox has created a new digital arm, Fox Digital Studios (FDS), and appointed Roger Mincheff its first-ever senior VP, branded entertainment for digital content.

FDS will produce original content for digital distribution and digital content spun-off from existing Fox brands with a focus on web, mobile and gaming outlets.

Production at the new unit will be headed by David Worthen Brooks, who was previously in charge of digital at Fox Atomic, the comedy and genre film imprint that Fox closed earlier this year.

Fox said Worthen Brook’s division will work closely with Mincheff to exploit commercial opportunities. Mincheff joins Fox from marketing agency Spacedog, which he founded in 1998.

Fox has been making strides in digital content internationally with web comedy series such as Single Dads. It was developed by Fox International Channels and will be carried on Fox websites.

The news of the new division comes as others scale back digital production. This year Disney ABC has folded Stage 9 into abc.com, talent agency UTA’s 60Frames closed and HBO offloaded HBOlabs.
