Sony launches production companies in Spain, Italy

Sony Pictures Television is continuing to ramp up its international production business with the launch of two new production companies in Spain and Italy.

The US studio is launching Toro Producciones in Spain and Toro Produzioni in Italy.

The Spanish company will be run by Marco Tombolini, a former Endemol executive who has worked on series including Deal or No Deal and Big Brother. Meanwhile, the Italian subsidiary will be operated by Pasquale Romano, a local producer who has developed series including The Recommended.

This follows Sony’s expansion of its international production businesses including the acquisition of Michael Davies’ Embassy Row and stakes in companies including UK’s Shine, Netherlands’ Tuvalu and France’s Starling.
