Marathon making French version of Spain’s Boarding School

Production has started on L’Internat (The Boarding School), a French version of the Spanish scripted series El Internado. The French version, for commercial broadcaster M6, is being produced by Marathon and Leonis Production and will air in primetime.

The Globomedia series, about mysterious events at an exclusive boarding school, is distributed by Spain’s Imagina International and is going into its sixth season domestically, where it airs on Antena 3.

The French version is shooting near Paris and marks the first time that a Spanish-originated series will air in primetime on French TV.

The news follows two other scripted format deals with European broadcasters brokered by Imagina. All3Media-backed German producer MME/Filmpool is making a local version of cop series Cuenta Atrás, which is currently in production for free-to-air broadcaster RTL. In Spain the show airs on Cuatro.

Meanwhile, Endemol Italia and Mediavivere are making a local version of comedy cop series Los Hombres de Paco, which will air on Mediaset’s Canale 5 early next year. The local version is called Tutti per Bruno.
