ABC moves forward V, cancels comedies

US network ABC has moved forward the launch of its big budget remake of sci fi series V, but has cancelled two of its latest comedies.

The broadcaster announced at The Critics’ Association press tour that V, which is executive produced by Angel’s Jeffrey Bell and The 4400’s Scott Peters, will be launched on November 3. The Warner Bros and HDFilms-produced remake stars Scott Wolf and Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell who are dealing with the world’s first encounter with an alien race.

However, the network has cancelled its freshman comedies The Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia. The Goode Family, an animated series that was created by Beavis and Butthead’s Mike Judge, and Surviving Suburbia, a family comedy starring Bob Saget, were both cancelled after their first seasons.

Both shows had originally produced by Media Rights Capital for teen skewing network The CW, but when the producer’s programming block was cancelled due to poor ratings, ABC acquired the rights to the two shows.
