MTV cuts kids format deal in China
MTV Networks International has inked a deal with CCTV for a local version of its GUTS show and the state broadcaster will air the Chinese version of the show this summer. The launch of the local version, called Tiao Zhan Xiao Yong Shi, marks the first time a kids format has aired in the Chinese market.
The show is a half-hour action sports gameshow, which started out on Nick in the 1990s. Nick said the Chinese version will feature various sporting events including basketball, wave pool and Aggro Crag, the show’s trademark mountain climbing challenge.
Nick has already shopped finished shows including SpongeBob SquarePants and CatDog to CCTV. A round-the-clock Nick channel is on air in the southern Chinese province Guangdong, which reaches 13.8 million households.
