Chase Carey back at News Corp
News Corp has confirmed that Chase Carey is rejoining the media giant in July, when he will take up the position of deputy chairman, president and chief operating officer with responsibility for all of News’ global operations and reporting directly to Rupert Murdoch.
Carey is a long time trusted lieutenant of Murdoch and will also join the company’s board when Fox CEO Peter Chernin departs in July. He spent 15 years at News, finally becoming CEO of DirecTV following Murdoch’s takeover of the US DTH operator in 2003. He had previously served as News Corp COO and was on the board of the company and its various operations including BSkyB, NDS and Gemstar-TV Guide.
The appointment of Carey is the last major part of a widespread reorganisation at News, caused by Chernin’s decision earlier this year to leave the company after twenty years. In March a wide-ranging reorganisation of the Fox film and TV businesses was announced.
