iPlayer launches on Sky
The BBC’s online catch-up service – iPlayer – is now available via pay TV operator BSkyB. The service, which allows consumers free-of-charge access to a range of shows that have aired on the BBC, can now be used via Sky’s online TV service, Sky Player.
There will be several BBC branded sections on Sky Player. The BBC has already launched iPlayer on cable after inking a deal with Virgin Media.
The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are still waiting for a decision on whether their commercial catch-up service, Kangaroo, will get the go-ahead. BSkyB is one of the companies lining up against Kangaroo, which is being investigated by the Competition Commission.
