PS71 sets up light entertainment producer Red Seven
ProSiebenSat.1 has created a new production company, Red Seven Entertainment.
The new entity will create light entertainment shows for the German-based broadcast group, which owns channels in Germany and, following the acquisition of SBS, throughout Europe. It will be headed by Jobst Benthues, who is currently head of entertainment at ProSieben, and be headquartered in the Munich suburb of Unterföhring.
ProSieben said that Red Seven, which will be wholly-owned, will develop properties for TV and other platforms, notably the Internet.
"By establishing a separate production company for nonfiction entertainment, the Group also intends to facilitate its access to programming rights and to improve the use of its portfolio of original and acquired rights," ProSieben said in a statement.
Red Seven will be part of ProSieben’s Group Content Acquisitions & Productions Unit headed by executive VP Jan Frouman. In an expanded role Frouman will oversee acquisition, production, distribution and format development.
