Studio 100 deal to shop BBC kids formats

Studio 100 Media has agreed a deal to distribute formatted and finished shows from UK kids broadcaster CBBC. It will be the first time formatted versions of UK public broadcaster the BBC’s kids shows have been sold internationally.

The shows in question are The Slammer, Trapped and Beat the Boss. Studio 100 will also sell the finished programmes and will manage sales worldwide excluding North and Latin America and the UK.

Beat the Boss is a half-hour fact-ent series, which pitches three kids against three business people in a competition to design a new product for the children’s market. Trapped is a half-hour adventure gameshow in which six contestants battle to escape a gothic tower.

The Slammer
is a BAFTA award-winning part-sitcom, part-variety show set inside a jail. The second season of the half-hour show is in production. All three shows are produced by the BBC.

Studio 100 Media, the Munich-based sales arm of Belgian-based Studio 100, started talking to buyers about the shows at MIP TV last month. "We look forward to distributing these very well known shows and are confident in their success internationally," general manager Patrick Elmendorff said.

Studio 100 and the BBC have already got a working relationship. The two are coproducing upcoming kids gameshow Kerwhizz for BBC preschool channel CBeebies.

"We are really delighted to be working with Studio100 Media, who have an excellent knowledge of the children’s international market. This will further build on the relationship we have with Studio100 in pre-school programming," said Tim Morley, head of commercial and business affairs at the BBC.
