Netflix orders Russell Howard stand-up special
Netflix is set to host a Russell Howard stand-up special based on his world tour, which is now in its final stages.
The untitled special will go out on Netflix in the UK and internationally towards the end of the year.
Howard’s tour show will be produced by UK prodco Avalon. Peter Orton will direct and Netflix’s Lisa Nishimura and Robbie Praw will join the stand-up as executive producers.
James Taylor, executive producer for Avalon, said: “Netflix has a reputation that is second-to-none for stand-up specials, and we’re delighted to be working with them to bring Russell’s globally popular stand-up to their audience around the world”
Howard said: “I’m really looking forward to making a special for Netflix. I’ve enjoyed watching so many of their stand-up specials, and to record my own for them is great.”
Netflix has been investing heavily in stand-up comedy programming, with the likes of Amy Schumer, Bill Burr and Chris Rock all signing lucrative deals to work with the US-based SVOD giant.
