Lionsgate launches Canada unit, Fremantle ups Di Mondo
Lionsgate has set up a Canadian distribution operation, with Susan Hummel (below left) joining from FremantleMedia to run the new office.
FremantleMedia has in turn upped Michela Di Mondo (below right) to fill the role vacated by Hummel.
The new Lionsgate operation, which will carry the Anchor Bay moniker, will be based in Toronto, and marks the first time it has had a sales outlet in the city.
Hummel will be executive VP and managing director of the division, which will be selling Lionsgate movie and TV titles and, following the takeover of Starz, series from the premium US cabler.
Prior to a three-year stint at Fremantle, the new Anchor Bay in Canada boss was at MGM. She reports to another former MGM exec, Jim Packer.
“Susan is an experienced and entrepreneurial distribution executive with deep knowledge of the Canadian television landscape who launched MGM and FremantleMedia’s offices in the territory,” said Packer, now president of worldwide television and digital distribution for Lionsgate.
“She is the perfect executive to lead the charge at our new office as we continue to maximise licensing opportunities for our expanding Lionsgate and Starz film and television portfolio as well as expand our unscripted television presence in this key territory.”
Di Mondo, meanwhile, becomes senior VP, sales and distribution at Fremantle Canada, reporting to Lisa Honig, senior EVP, international distribution for FMI in North America.
“Michela has been an integral part of FMI’s growth since joining the team in 2014,” said Honig.
“With her abilities to react creatively to the changes in the market, trends and evolving technologies, and her innovative deal making skills, Michela is well placed to push our ambition and commitment in the Canadian market.”
