Wacky Races reboot joins int’l Boomerang grid
The upcoming reboot of classic Hanna-Barbera kids comedy Wacky Races is to play on Boomerang channels internationally.
In the US, the series is set for the soon-to-launch Boomerang SVOD service exclusively along with another new series, Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, but both are getting a linear TV on Boomerang services elsewhere.
Wacky Races will see classic characters such as Dick Dastardly and Muttley, the Ant Hill Mob, Penelope Pitstop and the Gruesome Twosome returning to compete in races from their eclectic set of vehicles.
Warner Bros. Animation, part of the same Time Warner stable as Boomerang, is producing the show and Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz.
The latter is billed as an “uplifting comedic fantasy series based on the classic L. Frank Baum book”, and begins shortly after Dorothy and her friends have defeated the Wicked Witch of the West.
“The introduction of these iconic shows and stories is very well timed, as we continue to build Boomerang as our second flagship to Cartoon Network and a strong kids and family brand across international markets,” said Patricia Hidalgo, chief content officer for kids and international kids strategy for Boomerang parent Turner in EMEA.
“Dorothy and Wacky both perfectly capture the inherent values of Boomerang and we’re confident that new and existing fans of the channel will love this latest offering from our sister-company.”
Warner Bros. Animation series such as The Tom and Jerry Show, Be Cool, Scooby Doo!, Bunnicula and Looney Tunes already play on Boomerang International.
